A Comprehensive Survey on Different Control Strategies and Applications of Active Power Filters for Power Quality Improvement

Power quality (PQ) has become an important topic in today’s power system scenario. PQ issues are raised not only normal three-phase systems but also with the incorporation of different distributed generations (DGs), including renewable energy sources, storage systems, and other like diesel generators, fuel cells, etc. The prevalence these comes from non-linear features rapid changing electronics devices, such as switch-mode converters for adjustable speed drives diode or thyristor rectifiers. wide use fast switching devices utility leads to increase disturbances associated harmonics reactive power. occurrence turn creates several unwanted effects on system. Therefore, many researchers working enhancement using custom (CPDs). In this work, authors highlight significance network, its effect, solution, CPDs, passive, active, hybrid filters. Further, point out compensation strategies, reference signal generation gating strategies. addition, paper presents role active filter (APF) DG systems. Some technical economic considerations future developments discussed literature. For easy reference, a volume journals more than 140 publications particular subject is reported. effectiveness research work will boost researchers’ ability select proper control methodology strategy various applications APFs improving PQ.
